WHEN YOU WAKE UP AND JUST “DON’T WANNA”

Did you ever wake up in the morning with a day filled with activities and chores ahead of you and feel like “I don’t wanna!” ? I think everyone has days like that and when they hit us, we just don’t know what to do. Whether you have to go to work, clean your bathroom, do laundry, or even have lunch with someone you’d rather not see (today), some days the effort feels like it’s just too much. So what can you do? *(It should be noted that if this is a regular occurrence for you there may be some deeper issue at work, like depression, and you should seek help)*

If you are privileged enough to have the luxury of taking the day off – good for you! Do it! Treat yourself to a bubble bath, a leisurely breakfast, take a nice walk, read, or window shop. Whatever helps you get ready for tomorrow. If this is not you, here are a few tips to get you going.

Before you do anything, put on some music and put on the coffee or teapot, or whatever you favorite beverage is so that it’s waiting for you. Then, take a shower. Not too hot, ’cause that will make you lethargic. A shower will get the blood circulating and assist the waking up process. If you can do a tepid shower all the better. Dry off and go have your coffee. Some juice, like orange juice or apple juice will also perk you up.

I hope you eat breakfast because you need your energy. Some cereal or eggs, or even just toast and jam will get you off to a good start. Protein will keep your blood sugar at a steady level best, but if you just can’t do breakfast, at least have some toast.

Before you start doing anything do some simple stretching just to get your muscles loose. Now you should be ready to tackle what needs to be done. If your chores are at home, leave the music on, and let yourself get into a rhythm. Sing along! Some of you may prefer to turn on the TV, so if that helps you more than music do it.

The “I don’t wanna!” day can come at any time and each of us will be its victim from time to time. As long as it’s not a chronic situation, these few simple steps should help. Regardless of your lifestyle, it is always better if you treat yourself with kindness. Take breaks, stay hydrated, and don’t skip meals. And if you are not able to do everything on your list of “to-do’s” let it go. There is always tomorrow.
